Educational storyteller & former elementary teacher
David Chen is a passionate educational storyteller with over 15 years of experience in elementary education. After spending a decade in the classroom teaching grades 3-5, David discovered his true calling: creating stories that make learning engaging, accessible, and fun for children of all ages and backgrounds.
Born and raised in San Francisco to immigrant parents who emphasized the importance of education, David grew up understanding the transformative power of knowledge. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from UC Berkeley and later completed his Master's in Children's Literature at Columbia University.
David believes that every child learns differently, and his stories are designed to accommodate various learning styles. He specializes in creating narratives that seamlessly blend educational concepts with engaging storylines, making complex subjects accessible through the power of storytelling.
"Children don't separate learning from play," David often says. "The most effective educational content doesn't feel like studying—it feels like an adventure." This philosophy guides all of his work, from his science-focused "Curious Explorers" series to his math-centered "Number Neighborhood" collection.
David's stories cover a wide range of educational subjects, including:
His work has been recognized by the Educational Publishers Association, and he has received the Excellence in Children's Educational Literature Award twice for his innovative approach to teaching complex concepts through narrative.
When not writing, David enjoys hiking in the mountains near his Portland home, experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, and volunteering at local literacy programs. He lives with his partner Michael and their two adopted cats, Newton and Einstein, who occasionally make cameo appearances in his stories.
David joined Me Time Stories in 2023 and has quickly become one of the platform's most beloved educational authors, with his stories consistently receiving high ratings from both children and parents alike.
Join Mia and Aiden as they venture into the magical Fraction Forest, where they meet friendly fraction creatures who help them understand how parts make up a whole. Through exciting challenges and puzzles, children will learn to visualize fractions in a fun, memorable way.
"Welcome to the Fraction Forest!" called a cheerful voice. Mia and Aiden looked up to see a smiling creature with one-half of its body colored blue and the other half yellow. "I'm Hafi, and I represent one-half!" the creature explained. "In our forest, every creature shows a different fraction. Can you help us find our missing friends?" Mia looked at the map they'd been given. It was divided into four equal parts, but one piece was missing. "I think we need to find one-fourth to complete this map," she said thoughtfully. Aiden nodded. "And if we find four one-fourths, we'll have a whole map!" The adventure had just begun, and already they were thinking like fraction experts...
"As a 2nd grade teacher, I've been using David's Number Explorers series in my classroom for months. The way he explains fractions through storytelling is brilliant. My students ask for these stories by name!"
